A NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER
With the Month of November coming to an end it has been one to remember in terms of the weather. Usually, the month is bitterly cold, windy and not as much sunlight. As we turned back the clocks 1 hour, the darkness sets in earlier in the evening and that is an adjustment for us all to have to adapt to. The month is also when flu season ramps up as the cold weather approaches and fall turns into winter.
November 2020 however has been the exact opposite, with more days of mild weather and not as much precipitation than in recent years. We had days that hit double digit temperatures earlier on in the month, with the days being more sunny than rainy. Our coldest nighttime temperature was -11 with the Windchill and our daily high was 16.5 Celsius. More people have been out and about in the month of November than previous years primarily because the temperature has been on our side for a change. Although we have not been able to get together with friends and family in groups that we are accustomed to, you were able to do activities outside a lot more than you could in a traditional November month and while maintaining a distance, we were able to see friends and socialize. Person to person interaction is beneficial for us humans especially during this unprecedented time because connecting is apart of our natural habits throughout life.
Nicer weather meant being more cautious this time around as more people were out and about but that is good to see, rather than people being indoors and gluing your eyes to a television screen. Rather going for a walk, run, hike or bike ride, the key is to do it safely and responsibly. Taking good care of yourself is key in your self care development.
Personally for me, not a whole lot in my day to day life has changed with work being the top priority with a little bit of everything else sprinkled in between. Making sure safety is the top priority anywhere that I go is crucial for my personal well-being while continuing to put on a service for the sports community of Markham. Helping to keep my co-workers, the coaches and anyone I come in contact with makes me motivated to go about my work strategically. Whether it is helping at a team practice sanitizing players hands that walk in the facility or helping to ensure the proper protocols are in place for a safe and fun practice, I do my very best to make sure I benefit not just the players and coaches but my community that I live in.
As the holiday season fast approaches us with Black Friday and Cyber Monday being the official start of deal season, getting a good deal is always a bonus but doing it responsibly is very key. Try to not overcrowd at malls or stores and encourage yourself to shop online. Shop local when and where you can as small businesses need all the help that they can now more than ever, especially during the holiday shopping season. The big box stores may be the easy way to get what you need, but remember that you are only feeding a big corporation money whereas a small business needs the purchase in a big big way.
Lets help get small businesses over the hurdle and support them all that we can before we don't have them around anymore. We had a November to remember, but now lets have a December to remember as well.
